A great day trip with the kids of Panti Asuhan Destawan
Pretty soon after we arrived in the north of Bali we heard about a waterpark in the region that was supposed to be great fun. We immediately decided to take the kids there one day. Some of the kids had already been there before and just telling them about the plan to go again made them extremely excited. When we repeated the subject “hobbies” in English class, they had changed them into “waterpark” or “swimming” and just saying these words was enough to make them cheer.
Two weeks ago the moment was finally there: with the help of Ibu Ari, a woman from Lovina that helps out in the orphanage a lot, we arranged a bus to take the children to the waterpark. The moment we went in, the kids jumped into the pools, laughing and cheering. We hadn’t even changed into our bathing suits yet, when the children already took the second slide. The park, located in the town of Seririt, has many big slides, different pools and nice “bales” to relax on – although those were not used until the very end, when we all had a Nasi Goreng together. Everybody was so exhausted after two hours of swimming, running and sliding, that we ate in almost complete silence.
After resting a little, the buses took us all to the next location: the Buddhist temple. This beautiful temple is located on a mountain near the waterpark and has good views on the mountains, sawa’s and the sea. We took the steep stairs that led us through the complex up and down and after a while we found the bus again, waiting to bring us to the final destination of our day trip.
To end this day, we visited the Banjar Tegeha Hot Springs. The water of these springs is holy for Hindu people, so for the children it is a special occasion to swim and clean themselves there. The warm water and beautiful complex provided a perfect, relaxing end of this great day. Everybody was really exhausted but very happy and the children were very thankful. We cannot wait to take everybody on another day trip!
