Our friend Loan organized a dance workshop at SoH!
Loan, a good friend of EFFA, visited Seeds of Hope Children’s Home last month and used her talent for dancing to organize a fun afternoon for the kids. The dancing workshop was a great success and Loan had an unforgettable experience. We spoke with her and this is what she told us about her experience at Seeds of Hope:
‘My name is Loan Ho and I’m a student Child Development and Educational Sciences living in Amsterdam. Beside my study, I also teach dance classes and I am a dancer myself. In December 2013 I was planning a surftrip to Bali in Januari. While planning it, I didn’t want the trip to be only about myself, but I wanted it to be meaningful for me as well as for others. Besides, I always had it on my heart to visit or volunteer at orphanages and to be a helping hand. So I went online to search for an orphanage, and Seeds of Hope (SoH) got my attention because of the founders and vision they have. Later I contacted them and told them my story and that I would love to come to visit and bring gifts for the children. A few weeks later I spoke to a friend and he had a close connection with EFFA, which as we know, was already collaborating with SoH. Together with the EFFA foundation, we planned to make my ideas reality. That resulted in the opportunity for me to organize a dance class for the kids of Seeds of Hope.
My experience at SoH was heart warming and truly amazing. From the moment I arrived to the very end. All I saw was children who were so grateful for what they have and so joyful and loving. I loved it so much that during dance class – while it was steamy hot and the kids were dancing and drips of sweat falling down their faces – they were so eager to dance and with so much joy, passion and laughter. I was also touched by the hugs and love the children gave me and the effort and passion they put in the workshop. Even when the class was done, they requested me for more dancing. So after more than two hours of dancing in the heat, I started to wrap up the dance class and stayed a bit longer to play with the kids. One of the beautiful things about the class was that kids from all ages were participating, from toddlers to young adults. And each one of them added so much character and life to the workshop. It was just wonderful to see! Then sadly it was time to say goodbye. I was so touched by the many requests of the children wanting me to come back and stay longer, that I have promised them to come back in the future. So with that promise, I will be back soon for more cuddles. Looking back, I am very thankful for the beautiful experience and the love I received at SoH. I am glad to be a blessing to them and they are sure a blessing to me. This was an experience I will never forget and I am looking forward to go back already.’
We would like to thank Loan for using her talents to commit to helping these children. What also becomes very clear out of Loan’s words, is that activities like these can bring a lot of joy to the life of these kids. We are very happy to hear that her dance workshop were a great experience for the kids as well as for herself.
